Tax Information

Real Estate & Personal Property tax payments are due July 1 and January 1 each year.

Motor vehicle taxes are due July 1. Supplemental motor vehicle taxes are due January 1.

Transfer Station

The Stonington Transfer Station is located on Greenhaven Road in Pawcatuck, CT.

Hours of operation are:

Monday and Tuesday - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Wednesday - Closed

Thursday and Friday - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Saturday - 8:00 am to 3:00 pm

Sunday - 8:00 am to 1:00 pm

In 2006 the Transfer Station will be closed on:

May 29th - Memorial Day

July 4th - Independence Day

Regulations and Fees for the disposal of waste at the Stonington Solid Waste Facility

Fees:

Brush: Residential - ,0/Ton, Commercial - ,60/Ton

Bulky Waste/Construction and Demolition Debris - ,100/Ton

Large Bulky Items (i.e. couch, recliner, mattress) - ,10 Each

Large Appliances - ,10 Each

Large Appliances with Freon - ,20 Each

General Regulations:

Residents will not be allowed to charge any amount under ,20.00. Residents must establish a charge account through the Solid Waste Office prior to disposing of the waste.

Accounts over 30 days past due will accrue interest at 1.5% per month.

Accounts with a balance over 90 days will be suspended and access to the facility will be denied until the balance is paid in full.

All Residential Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) must be in a "yellow" Town of Stonington bag.

The following items are no longer accepted at the Solid Waste Facility:

Stumps

Rocks

Concrete

Masonry

Discarded carpet must be in pieces no larger than 4' x 4'.

Pay By The Bag Solid Waste Disposal

Bags are sold in two sizes: 33 (large) & 15 (small) gallons. One 33-gal. bag will cost ,1.25; and one 15-gal. bag will cost , .75. A sleeve of five 33-gal. bags will cost ,6.25; and a sleeve of five 15-gal. bags will cost ,3.75. The cost throughout all locations is fixed.

One 33-gal. bag typically holds 35 lbs. of trash, and one 15-gal. bag holds about 20 lbs. of trash.

Dog License Information

Dog license renewals due during the month of June.

Rabies shots available

According to Sec. 22-238 of the Connecticut General Statutes, all dogs ages 6 months and over must be licensed every year during the month of June. After June 30, by law, there will be an additional charge of ,1.00 per month for each month that a dog over 6 months of age is not licensed.
